As the country entered lockdown restrictions for the first time, Inspire Suffolk Prince’s Trust Team Programme student, Harvey, began his work experience placement at Tesco. During his time at the company, Harvey proved himself to be a responsible and ardent worker. As a result, he pleased to be offered a temporary contract.
Throughout the pandemic he worked as an essential worker, helping the store cope with rising demand, while being supported by his YES Job Coach.
He explained, “I feel this is the start I’ve always wanted but never been given the opportunity.”
Harvey is now studying at Otley College in pursuit of a career in carpentry. And continues to praise YES for helping him find direction.
“They boosted my confidence, improved my speech and helped me to develop my teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Getting offered a temporary contract was a further confidence boost and the support helped me to figure out what I want to do and what my career goal is.”
Ben Leclerc, Store Manager at Tesco said, “Harvey came to us as a pleasant young man, willing and eager to work with the Tesco team. Through unprecedented, challenging times for retail, Harvey worked brilliantly well with both customers and his colleagues. It was very pleasing to see his confidence grow which will no doubt put him in good stead for his working career ahead. The Tesco team would like to wish Harvey every success.”
